Foto Tip Friday with Keri Jeanne Photography

foto tip friday, use your camera

At least once a week, I  get an email or inquiry  asking  ‘Whats the best camera, Keri?’  There are a lot of really great cameras out there — and as we all know, even the smartphones out there take beautiful images (especially if you learn how to see light!) But when I get this question it’s something that stops me every time.  A lot of times I get this question from parents who are looking to just get the perfect picture by having the perfect camera. Memories are meant to be captured, not perfected. Especially snapshots of your life. Unfortunately, like so many other things in this world, if you don’t know how to operate the tools – it’s hard to get the result you desire without that knowledge.  Does that mean you have to be a professional to get good pictures? NO WAY! All you have to do is look for emotion.  That is what you are really preserving.  Learning the basics of photography will of course give you tools that will help you capture the emotion in ways that can transport time, but the most important thing is that you capture those moments!   So, use your small point and shoot camera, use your film camera, use your iphone, or ipod, use your digital SLR;  just use what you have!  The best camera there is, is the one you have with you!

Happy documenting,

Keri
