“Long days and fast years” – Stephen Kellogg, musician.
As a Mom of an almost 10 year old I have to say I agree. It’s crazy that in just a few short weeks my sweet baby boy is going to turn TEN. As in double digits. TEN YEARS OLD. I’m not sure how that is even possible but I can definitely attest to the fact that the saying the years go fast is absolutely the truth.
When I look back over the years at my own family memories, there are photos that stop me in my tracks. They probably aren’t the ones that you’d expect either. Often they are the blurry, out of focus, cropped, and likely unedited images that crush me. Of course, the perfectionist in me loves the beautifully light, nicely posed, crisp images as well, but the messy ones – those are the ones that pull at my heart strings. Why? Because that’s the accurate documentation of our lives. The messy middle moments.
You see, in the hustle of it all, especially motherhood, we are often so caught up in getting to the next item on the to-do-list, the next milestone, the next birthday for the kids, whatever it is, it’s the messy middle that makes us so busy. It’s also the part that makes the memories. The rushing around, the last minute dinners, the untied shoes. Those are the day to day events that make up the stories of our lives. So, it only feels fitting when I go through some of our family memories, it’s those images that remind me of the day to day life, the daily journey; those are the ones that mean the most.
So much of my business is based on documenting connection. It’s what speaks to my heart. It’s what I want to remember as a Mom and want to give you as your photographer. As we approach Mother’s day in just a few short weeks, I want you to stop and think about the Mother’s in your life. Your own Mom, your sister, your wife, your best friend, whoever it is, just think about them for a minute and imagine, what will they want to remember 10 years from now? I can promise you without a doubt, it’s the relationships, the connections, the childhood smiles, the teenage haircuts, the graduation smiles. It’s the messy middle moments they will want to look back on. Give them the opportunity to remember the moments they are creating right now. Gift the amazing Mom’s in your life the gift of memories of the things that matter most to them. Keri Jeanne Photography gift certificates are available in various denominations.
